Silversmithing 1, 2 & 3 complete
This three-day intensive class combines all three silversmithing basics classes in a fun, furious long weekend. The advantages of this format include getting to know your classmates better and potentially creating a jewelry making community for yourself, less “introduction” time on day 2/3 allowing more working time and a potluck lunch on the last day of class. If you are traveling for the class, we are happy to answer questions about the area and possible accommodations/carpooling opportunities.
During the entire class period, stones and beads will be on sale to the students at a minimum of 20% off, with greater discounts available based on quantity.
Silversmithing I- introduction to sawing, soldering, texturing and bezel setting. All tools and supplies will be provided but students will purchase materials (metal sheet, bezel cups, stones). We will be making a pendant by sawing out a shape of your choice in metal, texturing it, soldering pre-made bezel cups (1 or 2) on and setting cabochons (stones) of your choice.
Silversmithing II- soldering bootcamp! We will be making link chain out of wire. This will include wrapping a coil, sawing it to make jump rings and assembling/soldering the jump rings together to create chain. This type of repetitive soldering is the best way to learn, and sets you up with a skill you can practice more on your own. Students will be expected to provide/purchase consumables and materials, but don’t worry- we have all that on hand, and… Surprise! Each student will receive a FREE butane torch! (Applies to 3 day intensive only - ask us how you can receive a free torch otherwise)
Silversmithing III- This is when it all starts to come together… We will be fabricating (creating) custom bezel settings to fit a cabochon of your choice and turning it into a ring or pendant.
